APB research interest is focused on the use of adult stem cells for cardiovascular diseases. During his PhD program, he participated in demonstrating the presence of a post-natal cardiac turnover. During his specialization in hematology, he demonstrated that adult human tissues (heart, bone marrow and liver) host a population of widely multipotent cells. In 2009, APB demonstrated that similar cells may be cultured from G-CSF mobilized peripheral blood.More recently APB demonstrated that cardiac resident stem cells isolated from the hearts of patients affected by end-stage heart failure are affected by cell senescence processes that alter their differentiation and migratory abilities. Our aim is to gain insights into the mechanisms involved in stem cell senescence in order to improve our knowledge on the pathophysiology of heart failure. Moreover, we want to rejuvenate stem cells isolated from pathologic hearts to restore their in vivo reparative ability and empower cell therapy.
